The United States Embassy in Bangladesh has introduced a colourful fleet of specially designed rickshaws in Dhaka to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence and strengthen cultural ties between the two nations. The initiative, unveiled by US Ambassador Brent T Christensen, features 50 rickshaws decorated in the iconic red, white, and blue colours of the American flag.

According to a statement shared on the embassy’s official Facebook page, the themed rickshaws are intended to symbolize the enduring friendship and partnership between the United States and Bangladesh. The initiative blends Bangladesh’s traditional mode of transport with elements of American history and celebration, creating a unique cultural display on the busy streets of Dhaka.

Speaking during the launch event, Ambassador Christensen highlighted the importance of people-to-people connections between the two countries. He noted that the rickshaws represent more than a celebration of America’s historic milestone; they also reflect the shared values, cooperation, and mutual respect that continue to define Bangladesh-US relations.

The initiative has already attracted attention from residents and visitors across the capital. Many pedestrians and commuters were seen taking photographs of the brightly painted vehicles as they travelled through major roads and commercial areas. The colourful rickshaws are expected to operate across different parts of Dhaka during the anniversary celebrations, helping spread awareness about the occasion among the public.

The United States will officially celebrate its 250th anniversary of independence in 2026. Through cultural programmes, public engagement activities, and symbolic initiatives like the themed rickshaws, the US Embassy aims to deepen bilateral understanding and celebrate the longstanding friendship between the American and Bangladeshi people.
