On March 28 Tarique Rahman, Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Prime Minister, has called on party leaders and activists to remain patient, uphold law and order, and stand firmly beside the people during challenging times in the country.
Addressing thousands of party members from the balcony of the BNP central office in Nayapaltan on Saturday evening, the prime minister emphasized the importance of maintaining public trust and avoiding any actions that could cause hardship to citizens. He noted that people across the country are placing high expectations on the party and urged leaders and activists to act responsibly.
“People are looking towards the party with high expectations, so we must remain patient, abide by law and order, and stand by the people,” he said. “We should not do anything that creates problems, suffering, or difficulties for them.”
Tarique Rahman also acknowledged that the country is currently facing multiple challenges. He instructed party members to communicate these issues effectively to the public and encourage citizens to remain calm and patient as the government works to address them.
The prime minister stressed the importance of ensuring that public movement is not disrupted during political gatherings. Referring to the large turnout of supporters in Nayapaltan, he specifically asked activists to avoid blocking roads and causing inconvenience to commuters.
“People’s movement cannot be obstructed,” he stated, urging supporters gathered in front of the party office to clear the roads promptly.
During his speech, the BNP chairman expressed his intention to visit the Nayapaltan office more frequently to oversee organizational activities and engage directly with party members. However, he cautioned that such visits would only be possible if cooperation is maintained and public inconvenience is minimized.
“I will be able to come to the office if you cooperate; otherwise, it will not be possible,” he added.
Earlier in the evening, Tarique Rahman arrived at the Nayapaltan office at around 7:20 pm, where he was greeted by a large crowd of leaders and activists who gathered to welcome him. The event marked his first visit to the party’s central office since assuming office as prime minister.
Following his address, he held discussions with senior party leaders, cabinet members, and lawmakers, focusing on organizational matters and current political issues.
The visit and speech are being seen by political observers as a significant step in reinforcing party discipline and projecting a message of responsibility and public-oriented governance amid ongoing national challenges.
