The interim government has announced that August 5 will be observed as a national public holiday every year to commemorate Student-People Uprising Day.

The decision was made during a meeting of the Council of Advisers held at the State Guest House ‘Jamuna’ on June 19. Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki disclosed the announcement at a press conference later in the day at the Foreign Service Academy.

Adviser Farooki said, “A preliminary decision has been taken to mark August 5 as Student-People Uprising Day.” He added that the proposal would be placed before the cabinet for final approval on June 15, followed by a gazette notification to be issued on June 16.

“From now on, this day will be officially recognized and celebrated every year as a national day,” Farooki said, highlighting its importance in Bangladesh’s democratic struggle. He noted that the observance will serve as a reminder of the people’s collective movement and the role of students in pushing for change.

Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam was also present at the briefing.

The Student-People Uprising Day marks a significant moment in the country’s history, symbolizing unity and resistance against oppression.
