Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has urged every citizen of Bangladesh to plant at least one tree sapling to help build a cleaner and pollution-free environment for future generations.
The appeal came as the Prime Minister formally inaugurated a nationwide programme aimed at planting 25 crore tree saplings over the next five years. He launched the initiative by planting a garjan sapling at the Malumghat Reserved Forest in Dulahazara on Saturday afternoon.
Addressing the gathering, Tarique Rahman emphasized the importance of environmental conservation and the collective responsibility of protecting the country’s natural resources. He said citizens should think about the future of their children and ensure that the next generation can grow up in a healthy and beautiful environment.
“Thinking about your children’s future and keeping in mind that they should be able to breathe freely in a beautiful environment, please plant at least one tree sapling wherever possible from today,” he said.
The Prime Minister noted that the tree-planting campaign was part of the commitments made by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) before the national election. He recalled that the party had pledged to undertake a nationwide afforestation programme as part of its broader environmental agenda.
“Our goal is to plant at least five crore trees every year. Over the next five years, we will plant 25 crore tree saplings. If we all work together, we will be able to transform Bangladesh’s air into something much cleaner, purer and healthier in the days ahead,” he stated.
Tarique Rahman also directed deputy commissioners across the country to take all necessary measures to transform their respective districts into green sanctuaries through extensive tree plantation efforts.
Highlighting the growing threats posed by pollution and climate change, the Prime Minister said that safeguarding the environment requires active participation from all sections of society. He expressed hope that the nationwide campaign would inspire people to contribute to creating a sustainable and healthier Bangladesh for generations to come.
